UPDATE AS OF MONDAY, MAY 15, 2017

2017 HIGHLIGHTS:

Our organization has continued to followup with the leadership students from Monroe Middle School.


2016 HIGHLIGHTS:

Our organization spoke to the Benson High School Business Academy on Thursday, January 28, 2016 as a part of their awards presentation.


2015 HIGHLIGHTS:

Our organization was a part of a panel at UNO (Mammel Hall).  The purpose of the symposium was to discuss with 138 OPS students (freshman through senior year) topics including decision making, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, image and leadership.

Our organization was a part of a panel on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the 6th Annual Striving for Success Summit held at the Mid America Center (1 Arena Way, Council Bluffs, Iowa).  The purpose of the summit was to motivate the 225 young men in 9th grade to pursue excellence in education as well as listening to presentations from local experts in the areas of: Arts, Business, Culture, Education, Faith, Finance, Government, Health, History, Justice, Safe Communities, and Voting. 


Monroe Middle School:

Starting on August 25th on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., our organization will be collaborating with the Urban League of Nebraska per providing leadership and entrepreneurship curriculum to 7th and 8th grade students who participate in the after school program.


37th Annual NAACP ACT-SO National Competition:

Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, July 12, 2015 our five Gold Medal Winners participated in Philadelphia!  Congratulations to Cheamera Gaines-Liwaru for receiving the Bronze Medal in Photography!

4th Annual Heartland Entrepreneurship Student Conference - Metropolitan Community College:

On Friday, April 24, 2015 our organization will be attending this conference.

Nebraska Junior Academy of Science - Nebraska Wesleyan University:

Our organization will be assisted with the junior and senior category judging on Friday, April 17, 2015.

Afro-Academic Cultural Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO):

Our organization is a coach for students entered in the Entrepreneurship category.  The local contest will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Blackburn High School, 2601 Hamilton Street.  Judging starts at 8:00 a.m. with the general program starting at 6:00 p.m.

Nebraska Entrepreneur Education Conference - Metropolitan Community College:

Our organization participated in learning about resources that will help in educating our future entrepreneurial students at the middle/high school level. 

Monroe Middle School:

On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., our organization is collaborating with the Urban League of Nebraska per providing leadership and entrepreneurship curriculum to 7th and 8th grade students who participate in the after school program. 


2014 HIGHLIGHTS:

Our organizational was a part of a panel on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the 5th Annual Striving for Success Summit held at the Ramada Inn Plaza (72nd and Grover, Omaha, Nebraska).  The purpose of the summit was to motivate the 180 young men in 9th and 10th grade to pursue excellence in education as well as listening to presentations from local experts in the areas of: Arts, Business, Culture, Education, Faith, Finance, Government, Health, History, Justice, Safe Communities, and Voting.

Our organizational staff (Jeff Williams, who is an Area Governor for Area 33 of District 24) present various Toastmasters International modules for youth at Banister's Leadership Academy on selected Friday nights (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) during the 2014-2015 school year to expose 4th to 10th grade students to the wonder world of public speaking and how it translates to improving leadership skills.  Mr. Williams is also a member of the Affiliate Advisory Council (Board Development Chair) of Banisters.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2013 our organization sponsored a field trip to the Omaha Small Business Network for students participating in the leadership program from Monroe Middle School.

On Thursday, July 18 and Friday July 19 our organization will be attending the Gallup Education Conference:  Aiming at Career and Life Wellbeing at the Century Link Center Omaha.

On Tuesday, June 25 our organization was a host presenter at the Omaha Small Business Network.

On Wednesday, June 12 our organization participated in Grow Nebraska MarkeTECH conference at the Thompson Center at UNO.

On Thursday, May 16 our organization was a part of the Collaboration, Progress and Opportunities to Partner panel at the 6th Anniversary of the Empowerment Conference, Luncheon and Celebration

On Wednesday, May 15 our organization participated in the Monroe Middle School M.A.C. End of the Year Celebration.  The time of the event was from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  We presented awards to participants of the Leadership Program.

On Thursday, April 25 7th grade students from the Leadership Program of Monroe Middle School visited PayPal for "Kids at Work Day". 

On Friday, March 22 our organization spoke at the Sacred Heart School Honors Assembly.

On Thursday, January 24 our organization presented information to 6-7-8 graders from Sacred Heart's "Student Ambassador Group" about what entrepreneurs do as well as reviewing traits of how successful students can be leaders in the classroom.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2012 our organization spoke with a group of Information Technology students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Omaha Small Business Network (2505 North 24th Street, Omaha, NE  68110) about the challenges facing individuals engaged in entrepreneurship.  Some of the students currently assist small businesses in the city of Omaha with IT solutions.

The next session of the ABCs of business is being held at the Omaha Small Business Network, 2505 North 24th Street, Room 315 has started.  It is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. starting on Tuesday, October 30 through Thursday, December 13 (no class will be held the week of Thanksgiving on November 20th or 22nd). 

The first session of the 2012 ABCs of Business course was held from April 9 through May 16, 2012.

The ABCs of Business:  This class was taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from September 26th through Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Neighborworks (1701 North 24th Street, Suite 102).  Topics that were covered included Budgeting, Business Planning, Cash Flow Projections, Financing Choices, Financial Analysis, Funeral Planning, and Insurance.

Adopt a School Partner:  As part of our community involvement with educational institutions, J's Braintrust staff have lunch with the first graders at Skinner Magnet Center, 4304 North 33rd Street, Omaha, NE  68111 every Monday.  We are also involved in participating in after school activities and tutoring.

Saturday, October 1, 2011:  Tony Martin, former Globetrotter and NBA star had a free basketball clinic from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m for youth at the Butler Gast YMCA (3501 Ames Avenue).  Our organization assisted with officiating the games.

The mission statement of J's Braintrust Consulting Services Inc. ™ is to teach young people time management skills, financial principles, and entrepreneurial planning by applying fundamental principles in order to be successful and productive adults.

The vision of the organization is to equip young people with the tools necessary to be able to build plans, goals and dreams by providing a strong, core foundation of values that will help them become productive adults in our society.

The following are some of the objectives that will be taught by the
"BRAINTRUST" team as a solution to the challenge:

How financial institutions work;
How to establish a budget;
How to prepare and maintain a schedule for proper time management;
How to prepare a job resume/how to prepare for a job interview;
How to design, prepare and run a small business appropriate for youth.


B = Begin:  In order to do anything in life there must be a starting point, a passion, a plan and idea that makes a person move towards the goals and dreams that they wish to enjoy.

R = Reinforcement:  Information that continually is being used to strengthen the result of the outcome.

A = Accountability:  Peer group learning and holding each other accountable helps everyone see why it is important to work together.

I = Ingenuity:  In order to make it in the 21st century a creative mind is a valuable mind.

N = Networking:  The ability to learn from other people increases your chances of being successful.

T = Trust:  All things in life that are worth anything require this type of faith.

R = Resourcefulness:  The ability to cope with difficult situations is paramount to growth and being successful in life.

U = Usage:  Once a person learns a topic, it must be exercised or it will atrophy and die from non-use.

S = Saving:  Whether it is money or time the ability to fully understand this concept pays dividends later on in life.

T = Tenacity:  Persistent determination is the difference between a winner and a quitter.
